Job Summary

The Center for Online Learning exists to support a high-quality teaching and learning environment. This position contributes to this mission by planning, producing, and maintaining digital video, virtual meetings, podcasts, webcasts, and other forms of multimedia presentation. Job responsibilities include operations of a video recording studio, ensuring compliance with accessibility and student privacy standards, providing technical consultations and services, and delivering faculty and staff training.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

The following qualifications are required of all applicants seeking consideration for this position. Only applicants whose resumes clearly demonstrate fulfillment of each of these minimum qualifications will be considered for the position:

  • Associate of Arts degree in digital media, video communication, virtual meetings/webcasting, video post-production, new media design, technical communication, or other related field from a regionally accredited college.
  • Knowledge of graphic design tools, sufficient to support video post-production.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office sufficient to write internal memos, create spreadsheets, and maintain database information.
  • Communication, interpersonal, and client consultation skills sufficient to help faculty with online multimedia and webcasting projects and instruct them on procedural steps.
  • Customer service skills sufficient to establish a positive working relationship with faculty.
  • Ability to create ADA accessible online content.
  • Professional experience with post-production software such as Adobe Premiere.
  • Professional experience with virtual meetings, podcasts, webcasting/web conferencing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in digital media production, or computer-related studies.
  • Two-year experience producing and editing audio and video footage.
  • Familiarity with caption-making and transcripts software.

Physical Requirements

This position requires occasionally transporting such articles as file boxes and heavy hand tools or heavier materials with help from others and/or transporting light objects frequently. The position may require movement throughout building(s) to a significant degree.

Additional Requirements

In accordance with the Minnesota State Colleges & Universities (MnSCU) Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, employees driving on college/university business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to MnSCU’s vehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor Vehicle Records check.

The School/Academic Department: The Center for Online Learning (COL) is a team that combines instructional design, instructional technology, computer programming, and administration, and is housed within the university’s Center for Educational Innovation. Since 2003, COL has pursued a mission of partnering with faculty and staff to design and support excellent teaching and learning experiences in online programs and courses.

Online and hybrid classes present unique benefits and challenges to both instructors and the student body.

Supporting instructors takes many different forms, from the technological to the pedagogical. The Center for Online Learning offers support for using the learning environment, D2L Brightspace, the design of online courses, and the use of various tools and software that help students reach their academic goals.
